The EU has launched the “SWITCH-Asia Programme” aiming at supporting the transition of energy-intense and high polluting industries in the Asia-Pacific region such as plastics and waste, textiles and leather, agri-food and beverage (most of which are women-oriented sectors). The global objective of this call for proposals is: to support the transition of the region to a low-carbon, resource efficient and circular economy, whilst promoting more sustainable value chains and products between the region and Europe, contributing to the recovery of local economies.

8. Call for Proposals: Social Science Research on Solar Radiation Modification (see link for eligible countries)

The Degrees Initiative is offering grants to researchers in the Global South to study the social and political dimensions of solar radiation modification (SRM) geo engineering. SRM is a controversial proposal for reducing some of the impacts of climate change by reflecting a small fraction of sunlight away from the Earth. It is the first fund aimed entirely at researchers in developing countries and emerging economies to study SRM’s social and political dimensions. It supports work across social science disciplines, including anthropology, economics, ethics, geography, law, political science, psychology, risk science, and sociology.

10. New Open call for the Trinity Challenge on Antimicrobial Resistance

Applications are open for the Trinity Challenge on Antimicrobial Resistance to promote innovation in finding new data sources and integration of data, steering clear of incomplete and siloed information. Antimicrobial resistance, which for the purposes of this Challenge relates specifically to antibiotic resistance in bacteria, is a global security threat, impacting human, animal, and environmental health (often referred to as One Health). The Trinity Challenge encourages novel analytics and technology to derive evidence-based knowledge, and drive more effective policy and action.
